I’m super proud to announce that Simon and I have been accepted to the Travel Like A Boss Internship on Koh Phangan!
We found out about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from Johnny FD’s Travel Like A Boss Podcast literally the day we arrived in Thailand.
Now that must have been a sign, right?!
The internship was created by Charlie at Koh Space, a brand new awesome co-working space on Koh Phangan!
It was designed for aspiring digital nomads like us – people who have taken the first step and quit their jobs, booked a one-way-ticket, and are now trying to become location independent so they can work and travel the world at the same time!
So what will we be doing all day? Just chilling on a tropical island you ask?
Hell no!
We’ll be working 3 hours every day for resorts on the island, improving their social media presence, writing blog posts, and generally trying to increase their bookings. In return we get a free room and free food (yum!) for 4 months and free membership to Koh Space where we can work on our own projects in our spare time! It’s a win-win situation.
There will be 8 of us in total, some are web developers, bloggers and freelancers (we haven’t met them yet, how exciting), so we will all have different skills and will be able to learn from each other.
What I am most excited about are all the new skills we will be learning, mainly social media, SEO, and affiliate marketing. It’s an awesome opportunity for me as I want to start a business as a social media manager, and I’ll be practising these skills in an actual job.
Charlie from Koh Space has many other projects going on as well that sound really interesting. I am very keen to get involved in environmental projects again. The Green Cross Beach Clean Up originally started as a group who cleaned up after the Full Moon Party but they are now working in the whole area and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
I love meeting new people and having 6 other interns there who are just as excited about creating a location independent lifestyle will be crazy inspiring. I’m already picturing late night blogging sessions, photography workshops, and much more!
We will have loads of time to work on our drop ship store and my blog and there will still be time to practice yoga, swim in tropical waters and maybe even join in at the full moon party.
And how did we get this awesome internship? We had to make a 3 minute video explaining who we are, why we (really, really) want to take part and what are the skills that we could bring to the table.
Easy peasy…. Only problem was, we’ve never made a video before, panic!
So we did what we always do and tackled it in our geeky science ways, drilled into us for forever. We scripted the whole thing, read tips on how to create videos for YouTube, faffed around with our setup for ages, and then edited the crap out of it. Two days and 3 hours worth of footage later (ok maybe not 3 hours) and ta-da! We made ourselves a lovely little video, you can watch it here, but it’s super cringey!
Video applications are getting more and more popular and I’m glad we got this chance to practice making one. I plan to write about how to make a great video job application very soon.
Luckily Charlie and Lisa (who will be running the internship) liked our video and invited us to a Skype interview. After that we played the waiting game, and oh my god, you guys, WE GOT IT!!
Coincidentally, I met Johnny FD last weekend at a super-fun all-day Yoga retreat before we knew that we were winners. So yesterday he interviewed us for his Travel Like a Boss podcast. Shows what a small world Chiang Mai is! You can listen to the announcement of all the winners here!
I am super excited to move to Koh Phangan in August (living on an island is on my bucket list!), but for now I’ll be enjoying Chiang Mai and all it has to offer.
Now it’s your turn! What would you work on if you didn’t have to worry about rent and food for 4 months? Would you write a book, start a business, or just chill on the beach?
Congrats! I wish I could join next time! 🙂

Thank you so much!
I am sure there will be a next round, you should totally apply! I will keep on writing about it on my blog!
